Psychology and Islam

LUMS Religious society in collaboration with Psychology society, presents:

Islam and Psychology by Uzma Mazhar

Description:
Al-Ghazali in his study of the soul introduces two kinds of psyche or essences: one deals with the animal and humane forces of the soul (the incentive and the perceptive).

In the second kind of psyche, however, Al-Ghazali deals with the exercise of the soul, the discipline of morals, and the cure of bad manners. In this respect, Al-Ghazali is totally creative and inventive, hardly imitating any of his preceding philosophers. In this area, he introduced new effective means to modify human behavior and rectify its defects, thus preceding modern psychologists and behavioral therapists in this respect.

The Mumtaz Ahmad Memorial Lecture: Islam and the West in an Age of Transition

LUMS Religious Society and MGSHSS present:

“The Mumtaz Ahmad Memorial Lecture: Islam and the West in an Age of Transition”

By one of the most prominent scholars “Dr. John L. Esposito”.

His lecture will entail reflection on key themes that he and his late friend and colleague of more than forty years, the well-known Pakistani-American political scientist Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, addressed in both Western academia and policy circles.
These will centrally revolve around two main themes:

– Changes, if any, in Western approaches to Islam and the Muslim world, espeacially in the context of heightened global Islamophobia.
-The question of ‘Islam and politics’.
